Unfortunately, there is no one solution that’s going to make everything change for you or for anyone. It all depends on where you are in your life, what your past history with money has been, what your thoughts, beliefs and feelings are around money.

I know from working with thousands of clients that everyone’s situation is different – which is why no one solution works for everybody. The only way to know if your thoughts, beliefs and past programming are holding you back and that’s to look at your existing financial situation. If you’re not happy with it, if you’re not where you want to be, then there’s something stopping you.

So many people are struggling with this, which is why I created the 30-Day Wealth Attraction Challenge. It’s a program that will help you to identify and overcome the unseen issues that have been holding you back around money. And although this program is primarily design to focus on wealth, you’ll find that as you work through it other parts of your life improve as well.

But don’t just take my word for it, see what other participants have to say about this unique and very affordable program. You’ll find more information here.

How organized are your finances? I ask because we’ve just been through that time of year again when tax returns have to be filed and it can be a stressful time for many people. I think the amount of stress you experience relates directly to how organized you are with your financial documentation. For example, my bookkeeper recently shared with me that at tax time clients often provide her with a box full of receipts, check stubs, statements, etc. for the entire year that she then has to sort through to prepare their tax returns.

If that sounds familiar, I would also hazard a guess that you are not where you want to be financially. You’re not making the amount of money that you want to make. You may even be broke. How do I know? Because money cannot come to chaos. People often ask me to work with them and their homes to bring them more money, but here’s the thing – if you cannot manage what you have, why would the Universe provide more?

If you want more money (and who doesn’t) I would recommend that the very first thing you do is organize what you have now – and that includes the paperwork. If you simply round up all receipts and documentation once each year because you have to then it’s likely that you don’t know what your financial picture looks like day-to-day. The only time you really know is after the tax return has been completed. Do you owe money for taxes or are you due for a refund?

You might wonder what this has to do with Feng Shui, but it actually has everything to do with Feng Shui. One of the first principles of Feng Shui is to bring order out of chaos. Where there is chaos, there is stagnant energy. Where there is stagnant energy, there will be stagnation in that part of your life. Why would you want that in any part of your life, let alone around money?

I’m not just talking about personal finances here, this happens with business owners too. If you find it hard to keep your financial records under control, hire a bookkeeper. The time you free up and the energy you free up around your finances will make it more than worthwhile. If you don’t have the time to do it or it is not your area of expertise, you must have someone do it for you.

We need money for many things in our lives. It is an essential part of life. Money, like everything else, is energy and it needs to flow. You may want more but in order to have more you must first honor and appreciate what you already have – even if it’s not enough, it’s something. Part of honoring and appreciating what you have is to keep it organized and to be aware of what’s coming in and what’s going out. It’s very difficult to be wealthy when you have chaos around your finances.

So now that the taxes are done (hopefully they are done), why not take this opportunity to organize your financial documents on a regular basis? Why not keep everything filed away in a system where you can find things and you know exactly where everything is? Why not have everything entered into a program on your computer so that next year when tax time rolls around again, you can simply hand the file to your CPA to prepare your tax return? You’ll save money in the long run because you won’t have to waste time (yours or your CPA’s) in going through a box of documents trying to make sense of everything.
The more you can create order around your finances, the more you keep the energy flowing. When the energy flows, money can flow to you If you want to be wealthy, this is the first step to take. By doing this, you’re not only honoring and appreciating your money – you are honoring and appreciating yourself.

If you’d like the opportunity to attract more wealth into your life, take our 30-Day Wealth Attraction Challenge. It starts May 1st, but there are pre-challenge videos that can help you get started right now.

We all start the new year with good intentions. How many of us have resolved to get organized, exercise more or lose weight, starting on January 1st? These extremely common – and truly beneficial – resolutions are some of the hardest to keep, often because they require fundamental changes in lifestyle and shifts in our well-worn paths of daily routine.

To help you start the new year right, here are some suggestions that can make the difference between success and frustration.

I’m going to get organized!
Getting rid of clutter is one of the primary tenets of Feng Shui, the ancient art that focuses on creating a flow of positive energy to benefit the people living or working in an environment. Yet, clearing your home or office of anything you don’t want, need or love and ensuring that everything is in its proper place can be overhelming. How can you successfully declutter:

Break the job down into manageable tasks. For example, focus on only one room and start by clearing out a single drawer or closet.

Schedule a regular “declutter time.” Make an appointment with yourself to tackle a small area. Just 15 or 20 minuts of focused effort each day will make a big difference and help keep you on track.

Ask a friend to help. If you’re embarrassed about revealing your messy cupboards, make a deal to reciprocate by helping your friend declutter her home. Most people have clutter hidden throughout their home and realizing this can help you feel less self-conscious – it’s not just you! You can even make your mutual decluttering events fun by putting on some good music, sharing a bottle of wine, cup of tea or snacks and using the time as a chance to visit and laugh while sorting out drawers and cabinets.

Hire a professional organizer (my particular favorite). Even a couple of hours with an organizer can help you create new systems that will keep clutter at bay. It’s a great investment in your home’s health (and yours).

I’m going to exercise for an hour every day!
Sounds great, but incorporating a rigorous exercise schedule into your daily routine is easier said than done. Gradually building up to this level is a far more realistic goal. This resolution can be particularly tough because, although vitally important to your health, exercise isn’t ‘the highest priority’ for most people.

Determine the best time of day to work exercise into your schedule. For some people, the only option is to get out of bed a bit earlier and exercise before the regular daily routine. Others can turn a lunch break into an opportunity to work out or hit the gym before heading home after work.

Include exercise on your daily calendar. If you actually write it down, just like all your other important activities, you’ll be less likely to skip it.

Make exercise fun. With the huge variety of exercise classes and techniques – swimming, aerobics, yoga, Pilates, walking – most people can discover an enjoyable approach to exercise. If you can’t find an activity you like, try entertaining yourself by watching your favorite TV program while you walk on a treadmill or ride a stationary bike.

Use the buddy system. Exercising with a friend can be a great motivator and help make your workout more fun. Also, it’s harder to hit the snooze button when you know that someone’s waiting for you.

Increase your exercise time gradually. Not only is it unrealistic,, but it can be dangerous, to jump from inactivity into a major exercise routine. If you haven’t been working out at all, start with 15 minutes a day and work up to your goal.

I’m going to lose weight this year!
Ah, most of us have made this claim before. As with clutter-busting and exercising, we often attempt radical changes, find the process too difficult and eventually give up. Here are some ideas that can make a significant difference:

Make small changes to your diet. By choosing just one thing to change, you’ll more easily incorporate new dietary habits into your lifestyle. For instance, once living without fast food is routine, you can focus on another healthy change, such as drinking water instead of soda.

Form or find a weight-loss group. There is power in numbers, and joining with several people who share your goal can provide the support, motivation and accountability you need to succeed.

Treat yourself to non-food rewards. When you drop a pound or two, you have reason to pat yourself on the back. Get a manicure, go to the movies with a friend, or do something else you enjoy to congratulate yourself.

Address emotional issues that contribute to your weight6. This is especially true for people who find that they make initial progress, only to sabotage their own efforts and slide back into bad habits. Counselors can help you deal with emotional issues that may be causing you to cling to unneeded pounds. Various books can also help you recognize and address inner issues.

Don’t think of going on a diet. Instead, change your approach to what you eat, becoming more informed and aware of good choices. Losing weight is only part of the equation – keeping it off is the hardest part for many people.

Don’t set yourself up for failure by making resolutions that are going to be impossible or overwhelming. Take small steps towards your goal.
